Muvee AutoProducer 5
Video Editing Software

In this article we review muvee autoProducer 5. As the name says, this is not your typical video editing program.

Rather, muvee autoProducer is a program that automatically generates movies from your video clips.

It does this by looking for scene breaks in your footage, and then piecing together a finished video. Pretty smart huh? Well, it is a huge time saver - especially for those new to video editing.

Muvee doesn’t give you the kind of precise control that you get from a standard video editing program, but it’s ideal if you have some raw footage that you want edited as quickly as possible with music and transitions. You’ll really have to try this program for yourself to see how it works.

How It Works

To use muvee autoProducer, you first select your video files as you would with any video editing program. Muvee then lets you select from a series of options that will allow muvee autoProducer to customize the video to your liking. For example, you indicate the style of the movie and any background music that you want included in the finished film.

Then you select the style - this determines the pace of the video and what kind of special effects you want included. Once you’ve made your selections, muvee autoProducer analyzes your clips, and using your specs, generates a final movie.

A Whole Bunch of Styles

Muvee autoProducer is bundled with a whole host of styles to give your creativity free reign. Version 5 of the muvee autoProducer package has hundreds of styles to choose from. That’s a whole lot more than you will find in competitive offerings that try to do the same thing.

These styles let muvee build your production to either a slow or fast tempo, and give you a choice of themes that you can have it to apply to the video. You can also download additional themes for free from their web site.

MagicSpot Technology

'MagicSpot' technology is a feature found in muvee autoProducer 5. Essentially, it enables users to control the pan / zoom motion that is applied to still pictures. This feature really sets the presentation of your digital still photos apart - you need to see it to believe it.

The default function is 'Automatic' - which applies motion based on the user's chosen style. You can also select a 'Manual' option that allows the user to choose between two overlapping frames that they can move around to specify start and end points of motion.

The Tweak Muvee Feature

The latest version of muvee autoProducer is much easier to use than prior versions. While the idea behind the software is to make video production automatic, it still gives you some control over the finished product, however.

Muvee gives you the ability to fine-tune the video to your liking. It does this with what the company calls a ‘tweak muvee’ feature. Basically, muvee autoProducer lets you automatically replace a video segment with something similar (or different) in terms of color and tone. When the movie is produced, you can get exactly the video footage that you want.

Other Features

This version of muvee autoProducer has some other improvements. With muvee's Batch Burning feature, it's so easy to combine muvees from different projects together and burning them into a single DVD.

Also, the rendering time of the product was also quite good, beating out its competitors in several of our test runs. That’s one thing that you’ll appreciate about ‘automatic’ video production - you’ll have more time to enjoy the video!

Shortcomings

Muvee autoProducer does have its shortcomings. The menus it created were sub par compared to those you could get from other video editing programs. Menus are important when you burn DVDs, as they contribute to the overall polished look and feel of the finished product.

Also, we noticed that the output files created by muvee were created at a high bit rate. What this means is that these files make great clips for streaming clips, but not for playback on your desktop or recording back to tape. To work around this, you should save the output file to DV format and consider burning to DVD using another program.

Conclusion

The idea behind muvee autoProducer is simple. Many people simply don’t have time to edit videos. Editing is a laborious, time-consuming process, and it’s hard for amateurs to get it right. Yet editing is a must to really make your home videos shine. Isn’t that why you bought that big hard drive in the first place?

The pros at muvee have condensed all of their knowledge about how to edit video into one simple software product. Let muvee use its own ‘artificial intelligence’ to analyze your video, while you sit back to enjoy the fruit of its labors!
