Unable to get audio clips into Microsoft Movie Maker
Question: When using the Microsoft Movie Maker, I am not able to get the audio clips into the program. What should I do?
Answer: This is a common question from my readers. You should take note that some audio and video file formats are not supported in Windows Movie Maker and cannot be imported.
However, if you have a video or audio file that is not supported, you may be able to use a non-Microsoft video editing program to convert the file into a format that Windows Movie Maker supports, and then import the resulting audio or video file into Windows Movie Maker. Some files also require you to install a codec before you can use the files in Windows Movie Maker.
You may find this video converter program useful.
What file types can be imported? Well, you can import files with the following file name extensions into Windows Movie Maker to use in your project:
Video files: .asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf
Oh, by the way, if you want to learn more about Windows Movie Maker, I've written a good tutorial. You can also check out Microsoft's official Movie Maker tutorial database over here. It's got loads of stuff like:
- How to import new video from a videotape in your digital video (DV) camera
- Import existing video files, pictures, and audio
- Trim, rearrange, and copy imported audio and video clips
- Add transitions and effects to a project
- Add movie titles and credits to a project
... and lots more.
I hope the above helps you out. For a start, try importing the above supported file types for your audio and see if it works.
